Typically I search for real estate properties and don’t use a buyers agent. Eventually, I found an interesting house and met Mark Salmon the listing agent. Mark is a great agent and partner and I suggest you contact him if you are looking for a home in Tahoe. We all expect a real estate agent to have knowledge of the area and specific properties and understand the offer/purchase/close process. Mark goes way beyond that basic expectation.
What makes a real estate agent great ?? (and in my experience, few are great): Knowledge of little known aspects or characteristics that affect home value. Mark’s knowledge of the Tahoe vacation home rental market is amazing; for example many people want to rent their homes and Mark understands the realities of VHR and the current regulatory environment exceptionally well. Knowledge of current micro-market Real Estate conditions. While National/State real estate trends provide a background, all that really matters is the micro-market you are interested in. Mark’s knowledge of the Tahoe market reaches to the neighborhood level of detail and given the limited supply of housing in the Tahoe basin each micro-market is even more critical. Mark has long term knowledge about the benefits and challenges of each Tahoe RE micro-market from VHR opportunities to regulatory conditions. Understanding the TRPA regulations and processes is critical when you consider a Tahoe property. Mark has decades of experience as builder, developer and realtor in the TRPA environment, which is rare in a real estate partner. There are also areas where Mark has expertise that NO other RE agent has including: Knowledge of local expertise and craftsman – not just local handymen, but architects, builders and the best craftsman in various trades in the Tahoe basin. Mark’s network and connections represent amazing value when you buy Tahoe property. Knowledge of building materials, construction best practices (and typical corners cut) and most importantly, the building practices that are optimal for Tahoe and the implications of TRPA regulations. Some lawyers and consultants understand the TRPA regulatory aspects but no one has Mark’s knowledge of best building practices. Mark’s expertise ranges from wood products and construction materials to final finishes- incredibly broad. Mark also has exceptional intellectual curiosity; we engaged a specialist for one aspect of the home inspection process; Mark invested hours with the specialist and I and offered a level of knowledge of construction best practices that impressed the expert inspector I engaged.
Mark was really interested in absorbing the experts knowledge and integrated it into his own. Things we all want in an Real estate partner: Honest – Mark is a very open person and a straight shooter who will offer valuable expertise and candid expertise if you listen Responsiveness – Mark is awesome; and adaptable. I am old school regarding communication. Mark adapted his cutting edge client contact and management process to make sure we stayed in touch and up to date (He adapted to me) A great example of his commitment and responsiveness – I needed a hard copy of the closing documents in Tahoe and did not have easy access to a printer. Mark (after the close) took time out of moving his family to a new home to meet me and get me a copy. Amazing level of client commitment and service. Fair and knowledgeable partner, as you move through the process of searching for and buying a property in Tahoe you will benefit from working with Mark as the listing agent or on your behalf as the buyers agent, I will certainly use Mark the next time I buy a house in the Tahoe Basin. This was the way I met Mark, and essentially the seller “paid” the RE commission.
